Job title: Greenhouse/Community Garden Production Worker

Background

Peel Poverty Management Centre has initiated a piolet project of informal community gardens for seniors and families in need with multicultural background to promote fresh/organic growing & healthy eating by using available spaces in the community in partnership with many businesses and Stakeholder in the Region of Peel. Peel Poverty Management Centre is seeking to hire interested individual farm workers on competitive wages and/or students for placement opportunities for a two year piolet project starting in May 2020 to 2022 period. If you are a student or an individual with interest, passion and /or background in agricultural/farming and love to help community gardening for seniors and families in need in Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga area; and looking for community hours by investing in organic growing. Paid positions are also available, with extended benefits including lodging and boarding. This is an amazing opportunity to share and learn your organic farming skills with multicultural community. Since we have a wide South Asian target client load Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi speaking would be an asset. Following are expected activities.

Job Description

  • Assist Staff for client’s intake and registration for healthy/organic growing.
  • Distribute Organic growing kits, including soil, fruit/vegetables seeds, and accessories as per available land.
  • Conduct demonstrations for clients for all growing steps from soil testing, seeding, watering, and climate control and weed management.
  • Assist and help to manage the growing till fruit and vegetable maturity.
  • Harvest and crop final product management.
  • Post-harvest handling including grading, packing and storage.
  • Assist clients how to save/preserve final product, seeds and land for next harvest season.
  • To assist clients and make them capable to manage their own community garden all by them self.

Skills and Qualification

Individual with interest, passion and /or background in agricultural/farming and love to help community gardening for seniors and families in need in Brampton, Malton area; and looking for community hours by investing in organic growing this is an amazing opportunity to share and learn your organic farming skills with community.
